KIDS BUILD NEW LIBRARY THEMSELVES!
This memorial aid giving project is given in the name of Jason O'brien on the first anniversary of the untimely loss of a dear friend’s son, who Founder Eddie Haworth considered to be part of his own family. Jason was formally on active service during in the 1990 Gulf war where he had contact with chemicals. He passed away following a long battle with cancer at the tragic age of 44 years.
This time we are giving a truck load of books, handicraft making equipment, candies and a big show for the whole community who will be there for the grand opening of the Brand New School Library.
The library has been built by the children themselves, with a little help and training from local builders, their headteacher and his dedicated small team of staff and volunteers.
The school is situated in Mae La village in the Nakorn Luang district, North of Ayutthaya and sits on the banks of the Pa Sak River, Thailand. The area is prone to flooding during the rainy season, so the design and construction of this new Library is geared to preventing any further destruction of books and materials when the floods come during most monsoon seasons.
Schoolchildren here also have the advantage of the head teacher being a top class musician, so the most of the kids can play lots of traditional Thai music as well as keeping-up with the regular classes in all the usual subjects. Another learning priority, is for the kids to develop skills in hands-on construction, plumbing and vegetable gardening so they will always be more able to turn their hands to many different kinds of work in their own locality when they grow-up. This fantastic project will surely stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives.
"Well done to the Headteacher, his wife and all the children at this great little school!"
Gift of Happiness Foundation Also Proud to Give So Much Support Since 2005!
Here's just part of the support we have given the children at this school;
20 new computers, new efficient air conditioning in the computer room, tons of clothing, new uniforms, educational equipment, musical instruments, toys and flood relief aid. We even gave the children and families a 'Great Amazing Day-Out' to the Zoo in Bangkok, followed by a visit to a Bilingual School where the kids were treated to a well presented production of 'Peter Pan' at 'Amnuay Silpa Bilingual School' Theatre.
