Gift of Happiness Foundation.
A transparent charity that does exactly what it says on the tin!
How It All BeganThe Gift of Happiness Foundation was born from a simple idea in 1992, when Eddie and Charlotte Haworth launched circus training workshops for underprivileged children in Liverpool, England. In 2000, Eddie was invited by the British Embassy in Thailand to perform at a charity event for children living in poverty, an experience that sparked a lifelong mission. Over the next two decades, Eddie and the Gift of Happiness team have collaborated with schools, businesses, and communities across Thailand to deliver essential resources and unforgettable moments of joy. Eddie founded the charity on a deeply held belief: that every child deserves access to basic needs, education, laughter, and the chance to feel truly valued. Giving happiness is more than a gesture; it’s a recognition of our shared humanity. When we help others feel safe, healthy, and joyful, we create a ripple effect of happiness that transforms lives. |
Before You Read On...Discover the powerful true story behind the Gift of Happiness Foundation in the acclaimed TV documentary: “That Fat Bloke from Bolton”, produced by CoJo Productions. This unique film chronicles the life of Eddie Haworth, an innocent child who endured, and ultimately overcame, the devastating effects of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, without support from child protection services or family. Eddie’s survival is not just a tale of resilience. It’s a testament to the healing power of giving. Through his passion for spreading joy, he found a way to transform trauma into purpose, offering happiness to others in ways few survivors ever get the chance to do. Meet the FounderEddie Haworth FRSA is a professional slapstick comedian, inspired by his mentor Rowan Atkinson (aka “Mr Bean”). Between 1987 and 1994, Eddie trained under world-class stage, TV, and circus entertainers, eventually founding his own circus company and educational facility in Liverpool, England. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) in London, Eddie has received numerous accolades for his work in entertainment and charity, including the prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship (PHF) from Rotary International USA, recognising his service to humanity. His career has taken him across Europe, Scandinavia, Manhattan, Dubai, India, and ultimately Thailand, where in 2000 he was invited to perform at a British Embassy charity event in Bangkok. |
That invitation marked the beginning of a new chapter. Eddie became the resident family entertainer at the 5-star Shangri-La Hotel, and soon found himself performing at international schools, diplomatic garden parties, and events hosted by the British, American, French, Italian, and Australian Chambers of Commerce.
Eddie is also a Lecturer in performing arts and has been since the mid 90’s, starting at Liverpool and Manchester Universities in the UK and continuing his lectures and shows in most Asiatic cities including Bangkok, Singapore, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Ho Chi Min, Vietnam Vientiane, Lao and Shanghai, China.
Funding the Gift of Happiness
In 2005, Eddie Haworth used proceeds from his successful entertainment career to establish the Gift of Happiness Foundation. Having been warmly welcomed by the people of Thailand, he felt compelled to give back by sharing happiness where it was needed most.
From the very beginning, Eddie worked alongside dedicated staff and volunteers to bring joy and essential resources to underprivileged children across Thailand. This includes free edutainment events and the monthly delivery of clothing, educational materials, toys, and toiletries to some of the country’s most vulnerable communities.
Remarkably, the charity’s core costs have been consistently covered by Eddie’s own earnings as a performance artist, lecturer, and guest speaker at international schools, universities, Rotary Clubs, women’s groups, and cultural societies. His fellowship with the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand has also supported this mission.
Beyond Eddie’s contributions, countless individuals, too many to name, have offered generous support. One notable example: a well-known Bangkok artist who donated 100% of proceeds from his artwork sales to help fund the Foundation’s work.

In 2015, Gift of Happiness developed a corporate partnership with Monroe Consulting Group that included monthly financial contributions and a new truck. As a result, the Gift of Happiness expanded its success in serving vulnerable communities and this encouraged Monroe Consulting Group to increase their financial contributions to cover staff salaries at the Go-Happiness Centre in Bangkok.
"Without Monroe’s help, we would be totally unable to continue doing the vital work we do in supporting hundreds of needy people each month". |
