Fourteen volunteers from all parts of the world helped us to give three truck-loads of donations and some very funny dance and clown shows for several hundred poor children in the region. “These memories will stay with those children for life!” Thursday 1st March 2012 - Gift of Happiness Foundation are giving... 62 children and their teachers a great big day-out in Bangkok. The children are from our adopted school, Wat Sam Ma Kan School near Ayutthaya. These children are coming from some of the poorest families in the outskirts of Ayutthaya and most have never even been out of their local villages, so this will be a very special and memorable day out for them. In this picture taken last year, they are wearing uniforms donated by a bank. Now they are all looking a bit worse for wear, so they need to look good and feel confident when we take them to the big city... Read more: We will take them all to the Dusit Zoo in the morning. Then after lunch at the Zoo some of our volunteer performers will give a fantastic, fun and interactive animal dance workshop with the children. This will be followed by a visit at about 3.00pm, to the Amnuay Silpa Bilingual School in Bangkok where the children will enjoy another very special event. Amnuay Silpa is one of the original and best performing bilingual schools in Bangkok and their Drama students are staging a special production of Peter-Pan for our children. Then about 5.00pm it's back on the buses with a picnic package for them to enjoy on their way back to Ayutthaya and a well earned rest after such a big day-out. We are also planning to present the children with some new uniforms before the great day-out, so there's no embarrassment suffered by some of the poorest of the children who have very limited shoes & clothing. Volunteer helpers may join us on this special day in return for donations towards our costs. charity@gohappiness.org Now we need your help for this project! Thursday 09-02-12 - Gift of Happiness Foundation founder attends funeral of a volunteer (khun Attapol Kechararat) and delivers more goods to Wat Sam Ma Kan School in his memory. Founder, Eddie Haworth was accompanied by three volunteers when they all attended the last day of funeral rights and cremation of Khun Attapol Kechararat at Wat Sam Ma Kan near Ayutthaya. Before the cremation we delivered another truck-load of games, toys and educational equipment to the school and handed them over to the head teacher and some of the students who were allowed to leave their classes for the hand-over. We also paid a short visit to the computer studies room where we provided some new air conditioning units last year. It was great to see the Children learning via a PC projector in their air-con room and Eddie also took the opportunity to re-asses the need for more computers to help the children develop their computer skills. We still need to acquire twelve computers for the school and we hope to reach this goal before mid year 2012. The head teacher has recently bought an old school bus (with his own money). He used to use his own car to collect some of the 62 students every day. Now he hopes the new bus will save him a lot of time at both ends of the school day. Eddie has many years of experience as a mechanical engineer when he was a traveling circus performer and he's quite concerned about the safety of this old bus. He is considering ways to help get the vehicle replaced or at least fixed-up with reliable brakes and other important maintenance. Following the funeral and visit to the school, Eddie tried to negotiate a price to have a police escort for the buses when we take the children on their big day out in Bangkok on 1st March. We hope it will be possible to have this so the children will feel like proper VIP's on their big day out. Our appeal for funding this event is going well with about a third of the money already raised.
