New School Bus for One Dream One World, Mae Sot, Thailand

Look what we gave on our latest project in Mae Sot from 25 to 28 March 2013.
We are very happy to announce the great hand-over of the new school bus/somthaew for the children at One Dream One World school and shelter for street kids in Mae Sot N. Thailand. We also gave 120 new school uniforms to the poor children at Baan Huay Kralok Migrant School in Mae Sot. The children who survived a terrible Best Friend Migrant school bus crash earlier this month received lots of great donations from the staff and customers at Beiotto Delly and Restaurant and individual families in Bangkok.

Up-Date - Our project in Mae Sot
We are now able to help some survivors of fire at refugee camp in Mae Hong Son. N. Thailand.

Fire in Ban Mae Surin refugee camp, Mae Hong Son Province

Gift of Happiness Foundation are helping as much as possible.
We have just arranged to send a truck load of donated clothing to survivors of the horrific fire in Ban Mae Surin refugee camp, Mae Hong Son Province.
The goods will be taken from our volunteer home in Mae Sot on Friday 29th March. We can' make it happen any sooner, but we know that the clothing will still be much needed as it gets very cold a night in this region.

The Border Consortium (TBC) are deeply saddened to confirm that 36 people have tragically died in a fire that broke out in Ban Mae Surin refugee camp, in Mae Hong Son Province on Friday 22nd March. The fire swept through two sections of the camp destroying everything in its path, apparently caused by a cooking accident. The victims reportedly included children, elderly and the disabled who were trapped by the fire, while an additional 200 people sustained injuries from the blaze. Over 400 houses were destroyed leaving 2,300 people homeless, while community buildings, schools, clinic and food warehouses were also razed to the ground.
Emergency Appeal: Total 13,000,000 THB (USD 433,000)
(TBC) is launching an Emergency Appeal to raise the funds needed to replace essential food, homes and community buildings destroyed by the fire.

26/03/13 - We are now helping survivors of a serious road accident involving some of the children we regularly serve. This terrible accident occurred last week near Mae Sot, Thailand.
A speeding pick-up truck ran into the back of the 'Best Friend K42 school' somthaew (School bus). The impact forced both vehicles off the road and down an embankment, leaving one child dead and nineteen others hospitalized...some with serious injuries and at least one amputee.
We are appealing for help to provide those injured children with new or good condition used children's clothing, new underwear, soft toys, toiletries, coloring books, pencils and crayons.
Donations should be dropped at one of three points in Bangkok before 22nd March 2013.
We may be able to collect large donations from schools or other establishments able to collect large quantities. All left over goods will go to the Mae La refugee camp and Mae Tao Clinic in Mae Sot.

Much more happening when we go back this March!
25th...The usual big loading of trucks and vans followed by a long drive north to Mae Sot, Tak province with several volunteers to help hand-out the goods when we arrive.
26th...We will hand-over a new school bus to the One Dream One World shelter/school for street kids. Then we are going to sign agreements to pay rent for the Irrawaddy Migrant School and the HIV/Aids Men's Health Centre.
27th...We will visit Mae La refugee camp with some donations of mainly adult clothing, toys, educational equipment and hygiene products. Late afternoon we will give new school uniforms to all the primary aged children at the Migrant Children Development Training Centre. This school has 350 Burmese/Karen students – 220 of these are full time boarding students and the rest are housed in makeshift dwellings nearby the school.
28th...We re-visit the Skye Blue Migrant School for kids who live on the garbage dump when we will give them 120 sets of learning books, toys and clothing. Then we drive seven hours back to Bangkok.

Thank you to the children, teachers and parents of Bromsgrove International Early Years School in Bangkok for another great truck load of donations and coins to help the poor people on our last visit to Ayutthaya and Mae Sot, Thailand.
We also wish to thank Chillington Tools, Thailand for their great donation of hand tools to help the farmers we serve in some of the most remote parts of Thailand.
And not forgetting the parents and children of Trial International School, Bangkok for their great donations of clothing and money raised at the recent fun day.
