Project report by Mr Renato G Porzio...
We started from the GoHF early morning, yesterday, May 2nd, and we arrived at the Camillian Home for the Disabled right on time to meet Father Renato and few certified nurses. The ambulance was ready, and we immediately set our course towards the Suttawat Community about 10 kilometres from the Home.
Nong Ham was not looking very good, her complexion was pale, and her eyes stared intensely at all the strange new sights of unfamiliar faces and the ambulance with it’s blue flashing lights. Though she looked a little surprised and disconcerted, she never showed any signs of being panicked or overly stressed, which was quite surprising to me, knowing it was the first time in her life to be suddenly surrounded by so many people and stretchered into an ambulance. Happily, the traffic was good, and we arrived at the Camillian Hospital within an hour or so. |
The MRI scan says that during pregnancy the brain did not develop normally, and that is the principal cause of Nong Ham’s abnormal physical development and her inability to speak or properly understand what is happening around her. She understands something when spoken to, but with great difficulty, she cannot control her bodily functions and is suffering from malnutrition and dehydration. The “verdict” nails us all down with a pang in our stomach. The orthodontologist who visits nong Ham immediately after says that teeth are not well developed, and a dentist session is not advisable, because of complications which may occur. Due to the brain malformation, Nong Ham may have serious problems of regurgitation and, possibly, suffocation during any such treatment. |
They told us that. with the right diet and physiotherapy, Nong Ham can develop her muscles, and eventually be able to hold a sitting position that would in-turn lead to her being able to have a wheelchair.
We are pleasantly surprised as the physiotherapist starts to stretch Nong Ham’s legs, teaching her mum how to do it, and to see that there is no sign of pain at all is a very promising sign.
The absolute best news that Nong and her mother could ever hope for came when Fr Renato called the Camillian Home for the Disabled to organise a day-care placement for Nong at the Centre: It’s fantastic news to hear that the Centre can send a car, five days a week, to pick up Nong at home, take her to the Centre. This will give her a never experienced before, opportunity to be amongst other people with disabilities whilst having regular physiotherapy and activity sessions at the Home. We also learned that the same car will drive her back home in the afternoon, so her mum can continue to work safely in the knowledge that Nong is enjoying the best care possible and will be brought back home around the same time as mum finishes work. |
The Gift of Happiness Foundation will need to supply the necessary food supplements, which will feed Nong Ham during her daily stay at the Centre and at home.
Father Renato Attrezzi is a “Veteran Camillian Father”, and his unconditional support, help, and kindness reflect the very reason for the existence of the Camillian Order: “Selfless help to the sick”.
There are no words which can express our gratitude to the one who made all this possible.

100% pledge; Donations go directly to fund our projects Gift of Happiness Foundation pledges to ensure that 100% of public and corporate donations will go directly to fund our projects.
We provide vital aid and edutainment giving projects serving an average 2,000 children in need every month, plus many more families who are living in the slums of Bangkok. We cannot achieve this alone. The support of our donors, campaigners and friends is vital, so we want to make sure that we operate an efficient and effective organisation, directing our donor’s money where it is most needed. This is where our 100% pledge comes in.
In 2005, our Founder, Mr Eddie Haworth (AKA Clown Eckie Corporation) provided more than 500,000-THB ($15,964-USD) as required in legal fees and Government registration fees to set-up the Thai registered charity, Gift of Happiness Foundation. Eddie also provided the main 4x4 off-road capable vehicle needed for the charity to bring essential goods to remote parts of Thailand. He still covers repayments and maintenance costs for the latest 4x4 vehicle, purchased in 2018 at a cost of ฿1.2 million-THB ($38,300-USD). Eddie continued to cover all other running costs until Monroe Consulting Group, Bangkok made a 100% pledged to take-over those costs in 2015.
In 2015, our inspirational gold sponsor, Monroe Consulting Group gave Gift of Happiness Foundation the gift of a brand-new truck and a pledge to provide monthly cash donations to cover the Gift of Happiness Foundation’s core running costs; including administration, fundraising and office costs.
Thanks to the generous support of Monroe Consulting Group, 100% of the money you give to Gift of Happiness Foundation will go directly to Gift of Happiness Foundation projects and not to overhead or administrative costs.
