We are going back to the region to give some fun, warm clothing and other important supplies to the people at Umpien Refugee Camp, situated in the high mountains North of Mae Sot. There will be more goodies and 'Clown Shows' for some of the migrant schools in the same area during our four day tour.
We are now running a campaign to raise money...
to buy and deliver insecticide treated mosquito nets to the Mae Tao Clinic in Mae Sot. The clinic is a major provider of health care in that area to people on both sides of the border; to refugees and migrants, and to those who travel there because of the lack of any provision over the border.
Mosquito nets - or bed nets - are a cheap and effective way to prevent malaria infection...
particularly so when treated with insecticide. Those most at risk - and prioritized by the clinic – include the under-fives, pregnant women, and those weakened by other disease or medical problems. Nets provided are of a size to afford protection to a mother and children, or couple with one or two children.
There is also a need for nets for the clinic staff... who are also at risk and commonly become infected.
This campaign is ongoing as the policy of the clinic is to allow those patients most in need to keep the nets, thus continuing protectionagainst the disease after their stay in the clinic is over.
The modest price of the nets is beyond the means of most migrant workers, and for those who have traveled from Karen State in Burma to the clinic for treatment.
9,000.THB ($286.USD) for 100 Mosquito Nets...
Since our appeal started on 04-01-12 - We have raised enough money to buy our first 100 nets, but we need to take more of them to help some of the many thousands of children, elderly people and pregnant women who will pass through the clinic in the next few months.
We also need money to pay for truck hire, drivers, fuel and accommodations on this trip.
Please send whatever you can afford to make this project come to life and...
