We can now get the transport working for these children...
Shown in these pictures - The children are wearing clothes that we brought on our last visit in February 2012. We gave more on this visit, but they will still need more again in October.
There are just over 40 children at this shelter/school for children who are mainly from single or no parent families. They are sheltered here and taught by volunteers teachers during the daytime while their relatives and older siblings are begging or collecting rubbish on the streets of Mae Sot.
We visited them about mid morning following our second visit the Mae Tao Clinic earlier that day. Upon our arrival at the shelter we were greeted by about 30 of the children who were able to be there on that day. The children were all wearing some clothing that we gave them on our last visit and because of their new toilet/shower that was recently built by some volunteers, they were all looking much cleaner than last time we saw them.
On this visit we gave them more clothing (Including a new Gift of Happiness Polo shirt each), lots of toys, some educational equipment, food and . Some of those goods were donated by the American Women's Club of Bangkok, Colgate gave toiletries and Nestlee gave food baskets. (Thank You!).
We also gave the children another funny Clown Show. They all loved to experience and absorbed those very important happy memories that they can keep for ever.

This pathetic looking mode of transport has been broken-down for just over five weeks and before then it was the only way the children could be collected from the streets when they were able to come to the shelter. This machine used to collect up-to 40 children from the streets of Mae Sot -- Usually about 20 at a time! Now it's broken and the children are collected three at a time by one volunteer going around on his motorbike.
Yes it's hard to believe that such an old thing as this could be so important to these children? But it's true and they really needed some help to get it fixed...One of our regular volunteers who was with us during our last visit, donated a couple of thousand baht when she saw the need for this essential repair work to be done.
Now an anonymous donor has sent enough to pay for all the repairs. We are hoping to have the work done as soon as possible so the children can be transported more safely and we look forward to seeing the machine in action when we re-visit in October.
