Just One Homeless Man in Bangkok
UPDATED 09/08/19 SEE BELOW...
A story about a rough sleeper in Bangkok by Eddie Haworth: I have been trying to support quite a few homeless people who sleep rough outside derelict shops or anywhere else they can find to sleep undercover along On Nut Road near my place in Bangkok. One of the people I help is a gentleman who, through no fault of his own, became homeless in early 2018. |
When you consider the chances of him surviving rat or mosquito-borne infections and being wet through until the sun comes-up to dry his clothing out... well, you don't need too much of an imagination to work out that he really needs a help in hand to at least get through the rainy season.
Actually, I don't care what he spends his meagre earnings on...I only care about helping him to get through the next few months of Thailand's rainy season in the only way I can by giving him a little more security and enough essentials to carry him through...
I am not asking for money, clothing, food or anything else because I am 100% committed to providing my friend with all that for just as long as I am able to do so.
However... He is still strong, mentally agile and a very hard working man, so If you want to help him, please contact me personally and I will advise you on how best you can do that: [email protected]
UPDATE; 09/08/19...
Just to give you an idea of why I think this homeless man is worthy of support:
he comes from a village near Surin and he lost both his parents a few years ago so he was entitled to his share of the land and house his parents owned. He worked as a Security Guard in Bangkok but he finished working when his parents died because he assumed he would be able to live in the family home and work on the land they owned. But he is quite uneducated and therefore he was open to being robbed of his right to any inheritance he was due. In short, his sister has taken all the money, property and land...and she's abandoned him, so he came back to Bangkok to try again as a Security Guard...maybe he left his last job without saying goodbye properly, "who knows?"...He couldn't find another job and has ended-up living on the streets ever since he returned to the City.
All that said...
I have enough resources to support the man through the rainy season if he cannot find any other place to stay.
But if you know anyone who is looking for a handyman/gardener or just someone with a place for him to stay in exchange for keeping the garden driveway clean etc...that would be a great help? I will pay his bus fare to wherever there might be a place for him to stay in Thailand, (ideally where he comes from, Surin Province).
I know there are a lot of Thai ladies living in Thai Cities who are married to expats but still own land and or houses in N.E.Thailand... maybe someone like that might be interested to give him a place to stay and a small amount of money for his food in return for keeping their place clean and in good order (House sitting)...I believe he is a trustworthy man and would be an excellent "man about the house" if he was given a chance.
If the small amount of money is a problem...I can try to get someone to support his living expenses through an appeal through the Gift of Happiness Foundation's 20,000 followers on facebook...
but I have been trying to get some money to support a severely handicapped girl for several months now and I have only managed to raise a 1/3rd of the amount I appealed for. I am subsidising the rest myself, but since I am getting fewer bookings for my (cash paid) entertainment services these days... I simply cannot afford to do the same for this homeless man as well as the girl and a few others I am personally supporting.
As you know, I have no access to the Charity bank account and the board of Trustees cannot allow me to use any money from there anyway because (as written in the charity's constitution) it's all allocated for Go Happiness aid giving projects to help large numbers of needy people in Thailand.
So, Thanks again for your interest in helping and I urge you to send this message to anyone else who might be in a position to help me find a happy solution to this poor man's predicament. If you can't think of anyone who can help, please do try to re-post my appeal on your social media pages in the hopes that a few thousand more people will at least become aware of the appeal.
Thanks again and take care out there!
Yours sincerely,
Eddie Haworth. (นาย เอ็ดเวิร์ด อัลเบิร์ท ฮาเวิร์ธ) GoHF Founder/Director
