The Gift of Happiness Foundation
Has Been Spreading Joy Again in Bangkok
Just Like They Have Been Doing Since 2005
In their latest visit, Eddie Haworth FRSA, along with two new Go-Happiness Volunteers, Kathryn Allen (Head Teacher at Amnuay Silpa School) and her husband Simon, joined forces to spread joy and support.
Eddie is captured here delivering an inspiring presentation to the students at Amnuay Silpa School, where he was invited to share the impactful work his charity does for some of Thailand’s most vulnerable communities. The students are now rallying together, collecting cash and essential goods for Eddie and his dedicated team to distribute to those in need during November and December 2024. |
Khlong Tan is a minor tributary of Khlong Saen Saep that connects to Khlong Phra Khanong (currently considered part of Khlong Saen Saep) that flows through this area. The longest canal in Thailand with distance is 72 km from the downtown Bangkok to the east in Chachoengsao province. Khlong Saen Saep was dug during the reign of King Nangklao (Rama III) in the early Rattanakosin period.
Most of the workmen are Muslims from southern Thailand, including the Malay Peninsula. When the canal was finished he allowed these Muslims to settle down the length of the canal, ranging from the present-day Bobae neighbourhood (the end of Khlong Maha Nak area and Khlong Saen Saep is a continuation) in Pom Prap Sattru Phai district hereafter.
The canal divided into two phases; Khlong Saen Saep Tai (คลองแสนแสบใต้, "south Saen Saep"), also known as Khlong Bang Kapi, this phase has an end at Khlong Tan; and Khlong Sean Saep Nuea (คลองแสนแสบเหนือ, "north Saen Saep") is a phase that continues from Khlong Tan as far as terminates at Chachoengsao province where it confluence Bang Pakong river.
Since founding the Gift of Happiness Foundation in 2005, Eddie Haworth FRSA proudly dons his Go-Happiness shirt and hat, even in the sweltering heat of Bangkok. His dedication to the cause is evident as he chooses to endure the heat, ensuring that the cooler gear goes to those who need it most—residents of Bangkok’s slums who face these conditions daily.
